Obituary

Mr. Joe Harrison Bowie, Sr. was born at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 19, 1935 to Murry and Ura Bowie in Moorhead, Mississippi.  He attended school in Mississippi graduating from Gentry High School in 1955.  Upon his arrival to Lansing, Michigan, Mr. Bowie attended Lansing Business College (now Davenport University) for two years.  He served in the United States Army receiving an honorable discharge in 1960.  In 1961, Joe Bowie began a career with General Motors' BOC (Buick Oldsmobile Cadillac) as Forklift Driver.  During his tenure at BOC, he was promoted to Material Handling Supervisor retiring after 31 years of superior service in 1992.

Mr. Bowie united with Union Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Joel L. King and served dutifully in the Male Chorus.  In addition, he was a Mason and member of Capitol Lodge #8:  Al Ashraf Temple 167 and Peninsula Consistory 44, where he achieved the 33rd degree.

On April 6, 1963, Joe united in holy matrimony to Evelyn, the love of his life.  To this union two wonderful children were born.  In 1963 they gave birth to their only daughter Lisa Denise Bowie and in 1964 their only son Joe Harrison Bowie, Jr was born.  Joe and Evelyn shared 54 beautiful years together believing whom the Lord joins together, stays together.

On Saturday, September 3, 2017, Mr. Joe Harrison Bowie, Sr. departed his earthly home after a long, however, valiant battle with illness.  He is now healed indeed.

Mr. Bowie was preceded in his homegoing by; his parents, Murry and Ura Bowie; four siblings, Felton, Bernice, Jerry, and Cleniesteen.  He leaves to cherish the many precious memories: his loving wife, Evelyn; daughter, Lisa; son, Joe, Jr. (Buzzy); sisters, Bettie Milton and Murryleen Perryman; and a host of family and friends.

Mr. Joe Harrison Bowie, Sr. will lie in repose on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 12-7 P.M. at Riley Funeral Home in Chapel, 426 West Saint Joseph Street, Lansing, Michigan, with family hour from 6-7 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 12:00 P.M. at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 500 South Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Lansing, Michigan. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to service.
