Joan Lucille Kusler (Papenhausen), 93, of Haslett, passed away on Dec. 4, 2020 in Haslett, Michigan.

Joan was born Oct. 27, 1927 in Hinsdale, Illinois to Herbert Raymond and Eleanor Lucille (Burkhart) Papenhausen. She grew up in Hinsdale, where she attended school, got married, and started her family. She spoke fondly of her childhood, recounting how much she enjoyed taking the train into the city with her friends to go to the movies. A life-long Cubs fan, she grew up going to Wrigley with her father to watch them play. She was so happy when they finally won the World Series. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, gardening, and going all-out on Christmas for her family.

Joan was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, James Kenneth (Jimmy) Papenhausen; nephew, Craig Allen Kitzmiller; former husband, Gerald Kusler; daughter-in-law, Anja Kusler; and son, Dane Burkhart Kusler.

Joan is survived by: daughter, Laura; sons, Jay (Ike), Brent (Jackie), Tod (Heather); grandchildren, Jeffrey (Grace), Amanda Hughes (Mike), Lauren, Nathan (Erika), Jay and Benjamin; great-granddaughters, Maya Hughes and Isla Kusler; and sister, Martha Jean Cobb.
