To this union three children were born. Jimmy was saved March of 1959 in Tennessee at Tipton Church of God In Christ, under the leadership of Elder William Rankin. After graduation Jimmy moved to Lansing, Michigan, to live with his brother and sister-in-law. They lived close to Saint Paul Church Of God In Christ, now known as Robinson Memorial Church of God In Christ. Jimmy visited and soon became a member of St. Paul, under the leadership of Elder Perry Robinson. A number of his family members soon followed and became members. Jimmy served faithfully under Superintendent Robinson. After the death of Superintendent Robinson, he remained, serving under Superintendent William H. Lee. Jimmy remained faithful to the ministry and held many positions, over 50 years. He served on the Deacon Board, was a Sunday School teacher, President of the Y.P.W.W., and was a member of the Senior Choir. He also helped organize a youth choir, The Buds of Promise. This group was responsible for bringing the great gospel singer, Shirley Caesar, to Lansing. Additionally, he was president of the Trustee Board, where he served faithfully until his illness. Jimmy was preceded in death by: the love of his life, his wife, Verlene; brothers, Douglas and Henry Wray, and Harvey L. Hester, Sr.; and sister, Icie M Heaston.
