Obituary

Jimmie Lee Hurd was born April 11, 1927 in Bessemer, Alabama to Clinton Sr. and Virgalee Hurd. His family moved to Jackson, Michigan in 1938, and he relocated to Lansing in 1958. He attended Jackson High School. Jimmie served in the Army during WWII. He also worked for the railroad as a turn table operator. Jimmie retired on June 1, 1992 from Fisher Body Lansing Car Assembly after 39 ½ years as a skill trades worker. He coached softball for 25 years for various teams: Magic Enterprise, Mustang Bar, F&G, and IDA'S Hair Care. He loved watching sports and going to baseball games. Jimmie was preceded in death by: his wife, Sylvia Almanza Hurd; son, Jimmie Lee Hurd, Jr. "Buggs"; daughter, Ramona Hurd-Rhone; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Michelle Hurd; both parents, Clinton Sr. and Virgalee Hurd; two sisters, Ola Ruth Garrison and Oree Bradshaw; two brothers, Clinton Jr. and Johnnie Hurd. Our beloved, Jimmie Lee Hurd, went home to be with his Lord July 18, 2015. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, James L. (Sharon) Hurd, Eugene (Beverly) Hurd, Michael (Marlyn) Hurd, Ronald Hurd, Tammie Thomas, Dennis (LaWanda) Hurd, Eric Hurd, Daniel Hurd, Jimmie Hurd Jr., Jimmie (Shannon) Martin, Patricia (Sam) Thompson, Alexis Almanza-Hurd, and Vanessa Hurd; several grandchildren; brother, Charley Hurd; sisters, Mary Dunlap, Ethel Clark, Florence Paschall, and Norma (Thomas) Clemons and a host of family and friends. Mr. Hurd will lie in repose Sunday, July 26, 1-3pm at the Riley Funeral Home, 426 West St. Joseph Street, Lansing, MI 48933. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 27,11:00am at the Riley Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors 30 minutes before services begin.
