James Norman Woods
was born on May 29, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was one of many sons to Cassell and Alma Woods.
James received his education at Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. He retired from his job as a Carpenter after 20 years. James enjoyed spending time with his family and listening to his favorite artists, The Eagles and Lionel Richie. He was a big Spartan fan, "Go Green, Go White!", and loved to watch all Michigan State games.
James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all that knew him.
James went home to be with the Lord at the age of 80 years old on June 16, 2016. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Rita Woods; son, James N. Woods, Jr.; grandson, Raymond E. Kenny, Jr.; and many other family members.
He leaves to cherish and honor his memory: daughter, Suzette (Calvin Carter) Kenny; grandchildren, Damon Kenny, Autumn Henry, Jack Simpson and Alexandria (Alley) Kenny; great grandchildren, Imani Kenny, Breanna Heggins, Jasiah Alexander, Carliana Alexander, James Woods III, Jassiah Simpson and Julius Simpson all of Lansing, Michigan; sister, Anna Margaret Shively of Indianapolis, Indiana; very close family friends, Lena Pereida, Rick Brown, Cynthia Tyler, Perry Lopez, Tina Mathews, Gilbert Mathews, Ron Green and Borrego family: and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. James Woods, Sr. will lie in repose Friday, June 24, 3-6 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home, 426 West Saint Joseph Street, Lansing, Michigan. Funeral service for Mr. Woods will be held Saturday, June 25, 11:30 a.m. at Riley Funeral Home. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral.
