Obituary

James Jeffries, Jr. was born to James, Sr. and Irene Jeffries on November 6, 1928. James, Jr. was the oldest of six boys. James and his family relocated from Little Rock, Arkansas in 1966 for better job opportunities. He became a member of the Collins Memorial, which is now Trinity A.M.E. Church, and was a lifetime member.

James served in World War II as a Marine and was honorably discharged as a Montford Point Marine. He was employed with the State of Michigan Corrections Department where he retired with 35 years of service. He was very active on two separate senior bowling leagues, he enjoyed going to the gym three times a week and he was an avid Lansing Mall walker. James was a loyal fan of the Detroit Lions, MSU football and basketball teams. He loved Motown R&B music, as well as jazz. James loved eating soul food, especially all sweets.

James was a quiet loving man to his family and friends, he inspired all that knew him. We were very blessed to have had him around to grace our presence for so many years!

James was preceded in death by: parents, James and Irene Jeffries; loving wife of 63 years, Ruth Jeffries; son, Reggie Jeffries; daughter, Valoria Jeffries-Mosley; brothers, Calvin, Emmett, Herbert, and Jimmy Lee Jeffries.

James leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and caring daughter, Ms. Beverly Howell; brother, Welton Jeffries; grandsons, Jeffrey (Deborah) Howell, Jermaine (Anika) Howell, Marcus (La'Tonya) Turner, Marlon (Marshall) Turner, all of Baltimore, MD; sister in laws, Bettye Jeffries of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Arlean Mitchell of Atlanta, Georgia; along with a host of other relatives.
