Obituary

Ina May Major, 90, departed this life on December 14, 2020 at her home in Lansing, MI. She was born October 13, 1930 in Portland, Jamaica, W.I. to William Wong Sang and Christiana Gordon. Preceding her in death were: her husband, Enos J. Major; her parents; and brother, Samuel Wong.

Ina will be greatly missed by her loving family of: two daughters, Marilyn Smith of Hendersonville, NC, and Michelle Machen of Roanoke, VA.; four  sons, Kevin, Douglas, Michael (Grace) and Mark (Michaelle) Major all of Lansing Michigan; four sisters, Eva Reid of Gastonia, NC, Norma Hanna of Pembroke Pines, FL, Verona Hocking of Southampton, UK, Gloria Nicholas of Birmingham, UK, and Ivy Martin of New York NY; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ina loved to travel. She visited many countries around the world. One of her greatest loves were her flowers. She would spend hours cultivating her flower garden and nurturing her plants. That was her perfect place.

Ina worked for the United States Postal Service for 25 years before retiring. She developed many close and lasting friendships during those years. She was also a faithful member of Trinity AME Church.

God saw the road was getting rough,
The hill was hard to climb;
He gently closed those loving eyes
And whispered "Peace be Thine."

The weary hours, the days of pain,
The sleepless nights have passed;
The ever patient worn out frame
Has found sweet rest at last.
