Ike
Kinsey
December 7, 1945 – September 30, 2022
Ike Kinsey, 76, passed away peacefully with his wife and sons by his side on September 30, 2022. Born on December 7, 1945 in Coahoma County, Mississippi, to John and Alee Kinsey, Ike grew up on a farm and knew the meaning of hard work at an early age. Determined and steadfast, Ike left home at the age of 14, supporting himself and graduating high school in 1964. Shortly thereafter, Ike made his way to Lansing, Michigan where he settled down and spent the next 58 years.
Ike was employed by General Motors in 1966, where he worked for more than 30 years, before retiring in 1997. Ike also enlisted in the United States Army in March 1969 and proudly served in the Vietnam War.
In 1971, Ike met the love of his life, Ruth Ann Newton. They married on July 10, 1973 and had two boys together that they raised in Lansing, Michigan. Ike and Ruth were blessed with 49 years of marriage. During his final days, Ike regularly reminded Ruth and everyone else nearby that he loved his beautiful wife.
Ike also loved cars! If he wasn't racing or working on cars, he was sharing his passion for cars with those around him. Ike was a proud husband, father and grandfather. He loved watching sports and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He especially loved grilling and cooking up a good meal with family and friends.
Celebrating his life are: his beloved wife, Ruth Kinsey; three children, Michael (Heather) Kinsey of Cumming, Georgia, Steven Kinsey of Canal Winchester, Ohio, and Reggie (April) Williams of Lansing, Michigan; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Johnny (Cathleen) Kinsey of Lansing, Michigan and Carter Mack Kinsey of Clarksdale, Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ike was preceded in death by: his brothers, Jessie and Joseph Kinsey; sister, Maudie Lee Anderson; and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
