Idella
Green
May 1, 1933 – October 1, 2019
Idella Brown Green was born on May 1, 1933 in Brookhaven, Mississippi to Willie and Ethel Coleman. Idella was the 6 th child of 12 children.
Idella married Homer Brown in 1949 and their union, nine children were born. Idella moved to Lansing, Michigan in 1956 and later became a home care provider for children. She continued in this occupation for thirty years. Caring for as many as 15 children per day.
Idella was an avid cook and you would often find her in the kitchen making everyone's favorite meals. She had a beautiful garden filled with greens and other vegetables. Idella never forgot any birthday, graduations or special events. Idella was an amazing woman.
Idella was a lifelong member of Church of Christ. She grew up singing as a lead in the choir since the age of 5 until she was called home. She sang along with the church members whenever they came to visit. Idella loved her church family, especially Sister Maxine Coward, who came to visit her frequently. Idella was very proud that she had several grandchildren with beautiful voices because the woman could sing!
Idella departed this life on October 1, 2019 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI. Idella is preceded in death by: her two sons, Royal and Marvin Brown of Lansing, MI; five daughters, Ora Nell Brown and Laura [Brown] Robertson of Kansas City, MO, Arma [Brown] Mosley, Darlene Zachary, Karolyn Brown Love of Lansing, MI; her 1 st husband of 23 years, Homer Brown; and her 2 nd husband of 35 years, Jarvis Green.
Idella leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Lillie (Luther) Davis of Lansing; son, Harris Brown of Lansing; granddaughter who she raised as her own, Cindy Brown; 17 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Annie B. Kenny of Lansing and Betty Jones of Brookhaven, MS; special friend and companion for 25 years, Johnny Brewer; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
