Obituary

Icyrean Gunnells was born December 31, 1927 to the late Viola Baldwin and Ozzie Dantzler in Dumas, Arkansas.  She grew up in Dumas, Arkansas where she accepted Christ at an early age.

Icy relocated to Chicago, Illinois in 1954, in later years settling in Lansing, Michigan where met her late husband Meldon D. Gunnells.  Together they started a wonderful life in Bronson, Michigan, where she was employed at Bill's Steakhouse.  One of her all-time favorite things to do was cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.  She also had the pleasure of having four generations as part of her family.

If you ever came in contact with Icy, she was sure to bring a smile to your face and left a lifelong impression in your heart.  Icy will surely be missed by many near and far.  Icy was a faithful member of Union Missionary Baptist Church.

Icy was called home on April 29, 2016 in the company of her children.  Icy was preceded in death by: her husband, Meldon D. Gunnells; grandson, Kurt Glast; great-grandson, Curtis "Lil C" Glast; parents, Viola Baldwin and Ozzie Dantzler; sisters, Willie B. Verser, Leola Dixon.

She leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy: daughter, Viola "Tet" Harden of Lansing; son, Michael Porter of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; four grandchildren, Karla (Tyrone) Taylor and Sabrina Glast all of Lansing, Curtis (Shanda) Glast of Montgomery Alabama, Sareia Butler of Huntsville Alabama; three great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brother, Period "Bill" Dantzler of Lansing; special friends, Barbara Brooks, Bertha Peoples and Elaine Morgan; and a host of special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

"For his anger lasts only a moment,

But his favor lasts a lifetime;

Weeping may stay for the night,

But rejoicing come in the morning."

~ Psalms: 30:5 NIV
