Henderson Robert
Plummer
April 28, 1936 – July 2, 2023
Henderson Robert Plummer was born April 28, 1936, in Henning, Tennessee to the union of Effie Bell Mask and Henry Horace Plummer.
Henderson has been married for 69 years to Mary Ruth Davis - Plummer and six children were born in this union. Larry, Marilyn, Debra, Marsha, Marla, and Henry.
Henderson along with his sister Betty Plummer (deceased) attended Sunday School when they moved to Lansing from Tennessee as children. Henderson accepted Christ during this transition and they attended Collins Memorial AME (now Trinity AME). Henderson later moved his membership to Mask Memorial CME Church once this church had been started where his Aunt Annie Lou Miller, Aunt Elizabeth Brown, and his Mother Effie Bell Plummer attended. Henderson remained a member and served on the Trustee Board for many years at Mask Memorial until his death.
Henderson served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1953 and was proud to be a veteran. After high school, Henderson learned the trade of becoming a cement mason and worked toward his dream of owning his own business someday. After much hard work that dream became a reality when he opened his own concrete contracting business in 1969 under H. Plummer Concrete Construction. He was well known for his work throughout the Greater Lansing area for residential and commercial concrete services. In 1971 another long-awaited vision came into place as the Henderson Plummer family broke ground for the new construction of their new home at the current location in Mason, Michigan on 10 acres of land. With help from friends of the various trades of the Michigan Homebuilders Association, Mary Plummer was the associate general contractor for all work scheduled to take place. Upon its completion in the fall of 1972, it was occupied by the family as the Plummer children prepared to start school in the Mason School District. This brought much satisfaction to Henderson and he counted it a blessing to have accomplished so much for his family. He told his wife, Mary, and children; this is what I lived to accomplish for us and this will be my final resting place when God is ready to take me home! And so, it was!
During the construction of Mask Memorial Church in 1979, Bro. Henderson served on the special building committee and provided the labor for all of the concrete sidewalks and concrete approaches for the entryways as well as directed the excavation of the property.
Henderson was also an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, camping, and hunting. As a result of his love for fishing and camping, the family vacations were often filled with adventures and weekend-long fish fry when they returned. Henderson loved being with family and friends.
Henderson was preceded in death by: his parents, Effie Bell and Henry Horace Plummer; sister, Betty Doris Plummer; and daughter, Marla Kay Plummer.
Our beloved Henderson Plummer was called home on the morning of July 3, 2023, to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Mary Ruth Plummer; sons, Larry Plummer of Lansing and Henry Plummer of Ann Arbor, MI; daughters, Marilyn (Willie) Rogers, Debra Plummer, Marsha (Greg) Cunningham all of Lansing; seven grandchildren, LaToya Williams, Terrille Williams, Stallin L. Watson, Sr., Tycia Plummer, Tyrone Plummer, Emari Loveless Plummer and Joshua Plummer; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way.
