Obituary

Hazel Burndetta McClain was born September 9, 1959 in Gadsden, Alabama to Walker Jean and Betty Ann Coats. Hazel attended school in Lansing and Holt, Michigan. After graduation from high school, she worked at Oldsmobile, a division of General Motors. She retired, after 30 years of service. Hazel received Christ at an early age. She joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, as a teenager. She remained with Mt. Zion, until her death. She served on numerous ministries. The last one was singing in the choir. She was a giver and loved to help people. During one performance of the choir, she bought all the members purple flowers to wear. She looked at everyone with a big smile, because they looked so beautiful. Donating money to various programs was one of her passions. But of all her great passions, reading her bible and going to bible study, were her favorites. She was a faithful member, as long as her health permitted. Hazel was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was funny and respected by her neighbors and church family. We all will miss her talking back to pastor, constantly shouting out Preach Pastor . She had an acquired passion for cooking. She loved to travel with her husband, fish, and shop. Nothing pleased her more than to surprise a friend with a Special gift. She was preceded in death by her parents. God saw Hazel getting tired, so he wrapped his arms around her and whispered, Come with Me, to a higher ground; and I will give you rest. Hazel went home to be with the Lord on March 28, 2012. Hazel will be greatly missed by her devoted husband of 27 years, Duane; darling daughters, Danisha and Shante; loving sons, Vernon (Faith), Derick, Tyre, Duane Jr., and Andre; grandchildren, Amir and D.J.; sisters, Teresa Greenwood, Devora Coats, Wanda Bishops, Rita Coats, Shelia Coats, Jeanine Coats, and Nakita Coats; brothers, Wayne (Patricia) Coats, William Coats, and Tyrone Coats; mother-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth McClain; sister-in-law, Heather (Barry) McCloud; best friend, Carolyn (Calvin) Boykins; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
