Geraldine J. Coleman, of Lansing, MI died on September 24, 2025. "Geri" was born on September 30, 1934 in Flint, Michigan to Wilbert and Gladys Johnson (nee Brackins). Shegraduated from high school in Flint. Geri went on to earn her Bachelors degree from Michigan State University and her Masters in Education from the University of Michigan.
Geri spent many years as an elementary school teacher, primarily in the Flint school system. After moving to Lansing, she was employed for many years at the Michigan Department of Education where her work focused on the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) for students.
Geri was an avid world traveler, enjoying many cruises and other trips with family and friends.
She was a longtime member of the "MSU Football Family" and a season ticket holder, along with her husband, Don, who was an All-American Spartan football player in the 1950's and a longtime MSU football coach and educator. They were married for over 60 years.
Geri was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
After moving into the Willows of Okemos, Geri enjoyed many activities including field trips, bingo, group physical therapy, music presentations and meals with her friends. She received exceptional care from all of the staff at the Willows of Okemos, who treated her with the greatest
respect and dignity, especially in her final days.
Geri was preceded in death by: her husband, Dr. Don E. Coleman and her daughter, Stephanie Coleman, JD.
She is survived by: her sister, Rosalee Minor (Jerry); one niece; two nephews; and many great nieces and great nephews as well as her many friends.
In keeping with Geri's wishes, her remains have been cremated and there will be no funeral service. A private interment will be held in Flint, MI. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice in Geri's name.
