George Owens was born June 17, 1927 in Brookhaven, MS. He was the oldest child of Hollis and Mattie (Beard) Owens. George was the widower of Louise (Howard) Owens; they were married for more than 40 years. He retired from Fisher Body plant in the 1980s. He also had multiple business pursuits, including a small trash hauling business and a men's suit shop. He also sold wigs, shoes, World Book Encyclopedias and Watkins products. Since the 1970s, he was a passionate Amway distributer and worked hard to build a successful sales team. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and served on the Trustee Board and was a van driver. He is survived by three daughters: Jana (William) Lee, Sparkle Kemp, and Angelena (Charles) Spears. There are also seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Owens will lie in repose Thursday, January 15, 1-8pm at the Riley Funeral Home, 426 West St. Joseph Street, Lansing, MI 48933. Funeral services will be held, Friday, January 16, 11:00am at the Friendship Baptist Church, 2912 Pleasant Grove Road, Lansing, MI 48910.
