Obituary

Ms. Elizabeth Mitchell Drayton was born September 1, 1935, in Florence, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Mr. James Mitchell and Mrs. Annie Phillips Mitchell and was raised by Mr. Essex Phillips and Mrs. Goldie Jackson Phillips. She peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, in Lansing, MI.

Elizabeth attended the public schools of Florence County and was a graduate of Wilson High School. Elizabeth relocated to Lansing, MI where she was employed by the State of Michigan for 26 years. Her hobbies included: traveling, gardening, she was an avid reader, with a particular interest in holistic health and wellness. Elizabeth's commitment to her community was evident through her volunteer work with her church and active participation in the Lansing Interracial Faith Group.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: three children, Willy Drayton, Sarah Drayton, and Ernestine Drayton; four sisters, Leola Brockington, Virginia McCall, Marjorie Phillips and Ruby Vance; seven brothers, Paul Mitchell, Willie Mitchell, Leroy Mitchell, Joseph Mitchell, James Mitchell and Jessie Mitchell. Elizabeth leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and faith.

She is survived by: her daughter, Sharon (Dennis) Childs of Lansing, MI; sister, Vivian Wright of Florence, SC; two brothers, Essex Phillips of Dayton, OH and Leroy (Angie) Phillips of Dallas, TX; nine grandchildren; and a host great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

At Elizabeth's request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers and service, memorial contributions may be made to The City Rescue Mission of Lansing at https://bearescuer.kindful.com .

There will be no services at this time for Ms. Drayton.
