Mother Dorothy Juanita Winston was born August 28, 1923, to the union of the late James and Belle Hinkle in Kirkwood, Missouri. She was the youngest of four children. Her younger years were spent in Meacham Park and Kirkwood, Missouri. In 1941 she graduated from Sumner High School in Saint Louis Administration Center for a number of years. After leaving St. Louis, Mother Winston moved to Ecorse, Michigan. While there she was invited to a Revival and after hearing the Word of God preached by Elder B.J. Goodes she was baptized in the Name of Jesus by the late Bishop Morris Golder. She later received the Holy Ghost at Bethlehem Temple Church in Ecorse, Michigan under the pastorate of the late Elder Theodore Talley where she served as Church Secretary. Mother Winston later joined Clinton Street Greater Bethlehem Temple under the leadership of the late Bishop Samuel N. Hancock. Bishop Hancock sent the family to Lansing, Michigan where she served as First Lady of 13 years. As a pastor's wife Mother Winston served faithfully in various auxiliaries in the church. She possessed a meek and quiet spirit, always preferring to stay in the background where she felt most comfortable. Mother Winston served the Lord faithfully for 68 years. She was known for her distinct handwriting, her encouraging words and her giving spirit. Many people didn't know that Mother Winston was an accomplished pianist. She also enjoyed sending cards for various occasions to the saints and friends. Matriarch Mother Dorothy Juanita Winston made her triumphant transition to glory surrounded by her children on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. She was preceded in death by her brothers; Arnold Hinkle and Ed Hinkle, Sister; Eva Belle Husband, daughter; Phyllis Eva Winston. She leaves to cherish her fond memories: 8 Children: Sylvester Winston Jr. of Grand Rapids, MI; Sharon (Sylvester) Miller of Crete, IL; Dorita (Steve) Delaney of Grand Ledge, MI; Eva Winston of Bath, MI; Adrian (Diane) Winston of Brownstown Township, MI Lynda Sorrells of Lansing, MI; Cynthia (Stephen) Hill of Sterling Heights, MI; Brian (Marsha) Winston of Lansing, MI. 18 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren, one god-son and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, saints, and friends. There will be a visitation held at Riley Funeral Home for Mrs. Dorothy Winston on Thursday; October 29, 2015 from 5-8pm and Friday; October 30,2015 from 9-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday; October 31, 2015 at Bethlehem Temple Church at 11am.
