Obituary

Dorothy Hudson was born on July 19, 1925 in Gurdon, Arkansas to Carrie and Henry Wingfield.

She married Willie Hudson on April 25, 1944. To this union, five children were born: Leon Hudson, Lois Hudson Reynolds, Victoria Hudson Palmer, Vernon Hudson and Ronnie Hudson.

Dorothy received her education in the Gurdon, Arkansas school system. After moving to Lansing she continued her education at Lansing Business University and Lansing Community College.

Accepting Christ at an early age, she became a member of Mt. Cannan Baptist Church in Gurdon, Arkansas. After moving to Lansing she united with Friendship Baptist Church under Rev. E. Gladstone Scott. She was very active in the church: she was a member of mission circle #2, played piano for the Chancel Choir, the Youth Choir and Sunday School, was chairman of Vacation Bible School, a Sunday School teacher for 57 years, chairperson of the New Member Welcome Committee, and was also on the Trustee Board.

Dorothy was a member of the NAACP, a life member of the Greater Lansing Area Negro Business and Professional Women's Club, Inc. and Chaplain. She was also a past member (president) of the American Business Women's Club Association.

Dorothy retired from General Motors Payroll Accounting department. After retiring, she worked part-time at the Michigan Historical Museum until September 24, 2011.

Dorothy was preceded in death by: her husband of 76 years, Willie Hudson; sons, Vernon Hudson and Ronnie Hudson; parents, Carrie and Henry Wingfield; brothers, Henry Wingfield, Jr. and James Wingfield; sisters, Willie Mae Russell, Dasie and Rosie Wingfield, Stella Love and Birdie Washington; grandson, Maurice Irons; granddaughter, Tracy Reynolds.

She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Leon Hudson; daughters, Lois Hudson Reynolds and Victoria Hudson Palmer; grandchildren, Kyla (Dameon) Moore, Chase (Karen) Reynolds, Scott Williams, James Williams, Ronald (Gvon) Beard, Damian Keeler, Sharonda (Terrell) Wade, Rhoneshia Hudson; great grandchildren, Shantay Smith, LaShay Bennifield, Ezykiel Moore, Dameyon Moore, Tzimari Moore, Prezton Beard, Xavier Wade, Zia Wade; great great grandchildren, Za'cory Smith and Dameyon Moore, Jr; as well as a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
