Obituary

The sunrise for Mrs. Dorothy B. Gee took place on March 30, 1930 in Montgomery, Alabama. She was the youngest of four children born to Thomas and Louise James. Dorothy completed her formal education in the Montgomery Public Schools.

She had an unusual thirst for learning and continued to take classes; as well as attending seminars to keep her skills updated. Upon her move to Lansing, MI she was employed as a teacher assistant in the Lansing School District.

The bells for holy matrimony rang loudly on December 24, 1960 when she married Edwin Gee. The couple worked together and gained a very comfortable lifestyle. Traveling was a top priority for them and they enjoyed trips to the beautiful Hawaiian Islands, cruising in the Caribbean and visiting family in Kentucky and Alabama. Dorothy's life took a dramatic change on July 25, 1963 when she gave her life to the Lord. Her commitment, loyalty and faithfulness to God's service was of the utmost importance to her. Distance did not deter her in supporting local, state and national convocations each year. Dorothy was an excellent bible student and her Bible was her daily guide. It equipped her to serve in various capacities under the leadership of the late Elder Arzo Ellis and Pastor Fellersee Williams such as: trustee, church treasurer, devotional leader, choir member, as well as being an integral part of the construction of Williams Chapel Original Church of God. At the time of her demise, she was a faithful member of Williams Chapel Original Church of God serving as church mother under Pastor William Crenshaw, Sr.

She was blessed to have a love for laughter which she poured into her relationships in her church and on her job. To know Dorothy was to love Dorothy because her friendship was true and enduring. To say she will be greatly missed is an understatement. But we will say our lives are rich with precious memories.

Although she and her husband did not have any biological children they became adoring parents to many. Dorothy was preceded in death by: her husband, Edwin Gee; father, Thomas James, Sr.; mother, Louise James; sister, Janie Williams; brothers, Thomas James, Jr. and John D. James; godchildren, Dianna Lynn Welch, Vicki L. Maffett  and Lynette Oliver-St.Louis; as well as other family members.

Left to cherish her memory are: niece and caregiver, Charlesetta Kelso; caregiver, Louise Richardson of Lansing; niece, Jackie Wellington of Florida; nephew, Johnny (Roberta) James of Montgomery, AL; cousins, Frank Lewis of Conyers, GA and Gloria Starks and Atlanta, GA; sisters-in-law, Lucille Moseley and Cornelia Bell of Hopkinsville, KY; best friends, Bennie Lee Black and Pastor Geraldine T. Richardson of Lansing, MI;  Williams Chapel Original Church of God family; godchildren, Charles Storay of Florida, Manivanh Khamphone Ratdavong of Zeeland, MI, Dwayne Burtley, Steven Jackson, Moya Maffett, Rashan Maffett, Sandra Williams; her Grand Haven family, Connie, Larry and Steve; and her dear Original Church of God Family throughout the country.
