Dorit (Dori) Card of Lansing died peacefully at home Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the age of 84.
She was born February 15, 1937 to Jorge and Irmgart (Leichtfuss) Ehrenmann.
After high school she spent a year in England as an Au Pair, further refining her knowledge of the English language. She then worked for the US Army in Heidelberg were she met her husband Gerald Card. While the marriage did not last, she remained friends with him and his family.
She arrived in Flint, Michigan in August 1958 with their 6-week-old daughter, making the US her forever home.
She raised her daughters in Lansing while working at Michigan State University for more than 34 years. She made the Village Townhouse Cooperative her home for more than 55 years, serving on the board of directors for 30 of those years.
She had a passion for gardening, bird watching, her pets and most of all family and friends. Dori had a huge heart which accounts for her many, many friends. To know her was to love her.
She was proceeded in death by: her parents; her ex-husband; and precious grandson, David Rector.
She is survived by: her daughters, Joni Smith, Theresa (David) Doerr; sister, Babel Colm; sister-in-law, Jean (Joseph) Skornicka; grandchildren, Morgan Smith, Bryan (Heidi) Doerr, Sarah (Cris) Totten; five great grandchildren, nephew and nieces, Joseph, Susan, Eva and Elena; and many VERY SPECIAL FRIENDS that were part of her family.
The family would like to thank Sparrow Hospice, especially her nurse Beth, aide Chimera, and Bre as well as her aide Tiffany. Without you love and compassion her last few months would not have been in her home where she wanted to be.
Donations to the Capital Area Humane Society under her name is her wish.
There will be no services at this time for Ms. Card.
