A beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather, Donald Sherman Reynolds of Okemos, Michigan, passed away in his home surrounded by family on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at the age of 75.
Don was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 18, 1951 to Sherman Ridge Reynolds and Vivian Alice Schweisow. He moved with his family to Grosse Ile, Michigan when he was 2 years old. After completing high school in Grosse Ile, Don continued onward to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Psychology, followed by a Masters degree in Social Work from Michigan State University. He worked as a licensed social worker in Michigan and then California. Don found purpose in serving others and their families in all aspects of his career and life. He was volunteering at the Drug Education Center (DEC), a non profit drop-in and telephone crisis intervention facility in East Lansing when he met his wife, Leslie, in the summer of 1976. Don and Leslie were married in 1979. In 1981, Don and his wife moved to Flint, MI where he worked as a counselor at Catholic Social Services. Moving to Chico, California in 1987 with his family, he continued to work in Child Abuse Prevention. Shortly after moving again with his family to Okemos, Michigan in 1994, Don retired from the workforce to dedicate his time to raising his 3 children.
Don enjoyed his time at home with family and friends. You could find him watching football, playing a game on the computer or picking up sticks in the lawn. Don enjoyed playing cards weekly with long time friends for more than 30 years. He loved playing board games and spent many hours listening to music and sharing it with others. Don also dedicated much of his time to raising money for Ingham Medical Center, and found joy volunteering at its yearly Festival of Trees event.
Don is survived by: his wife of 47 years, Leslie (Kirkpatrick) Reynolds; sons, Michael and Paul (Sarah Theut); and daughter, Christina (Jeffrey Breunsbach); brothers, Paul Maynard Reynolds (Thea), and Gary Lee Reynolds; and grandchildren, Caleb, Elliot, and Abby (Christina and Jeffrey), Kaiden and Taytum (Paul and Sarah). Don is preceded in death by: his father, Sherman Ridge Reynolds and mother, Vivian Alice (Schweisow) Reynolds.
