Memorial Service; Tuesday, June 5, 2012 ~ 1:00 pm at Riley Funeral Home. Devora Anna Coats born July 17,1958 in Gadsen, Alabama to Walker Jean and Betty Ann Coats. Devora moved from Gadsen to Detroit, Michigan where she lived for a while then she moved to Lansing, Michigan where she resided the reminder of her years. Devora attended Northern High School of Detroit, where she received her high school diploma. Then, with strong determination, she received an Associates degree in Art and a Bachelors of Science degree. Devoras motto in life was Do what you can while you can! Devora was an employee of Peckham Manufacturing for many years before her health began to decline. While employed she built cars for General Motors. She also had skills in carpentry where she assisted in building homes. Devora was a mother of two children whom she loved with all her heart and soul. She was also considered mom to many others. She had a heart of gold, as long as you stayed on her good side . She would go out of her way to help others in need. In her leisure time she enjoyed shopping, cooking, eating, writing poems, mastering crossword puzzles, and spending quality time with friends and family. She loved her grandchildren and took delight in caring and nurturing for them while she was physically able. Devora experienced many trials in her life and suffered many afflictions but throughout it all she persevered no matter what! Unfortunately, this battle was more than she could bare so she gaveit to God! Devora was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Jeffery Coats; sisters, Hazel McClain and Monique Coats. Devora entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 28, 2012. Although we are deeply saddened by her absence we are truly grateful for having shared her life and love. Devora leaves to cherish her precious memory: her loving sons: Shetoan and Shelton Coats, both of Lansing; sisters, Teresa Greenwood and Wanda Bishop, both of Lansing, Rita Coats, Shelia Coats, Jeanine Coats and Nakita Coats, all of Detroit; brothers, Wayne (Patricia) Coats of Lansing, William and Tyrone Coats both of Detroit; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother in-law, Dewayne McClain; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
