Obituary

Delores Jean Washington (née Jackson) was born May 4, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan to Arthur "Buster" Jackson, Sr. and Dora Lee Asberry Jackson. She was the first child of seven born to this blessed union. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary and High School graduating as class president in 1955.

She began her career in 1955 with J. L. Hudson Company as a clerk. She rose through the ranks to become a lingerie buyer in 1974 and ultimately the children clothing buyer. She was nominated for the Michigan Chronicle "Top Ten Black Women Who Work" award in 1975. Ms. Washington is a graduate of Wayne State University in retailing and continued her education at the University of Detroit. Delores retired from J. L. Hudson Company/Macy's after 40 years of dedicated service. After retirement, she moved from Plymouth, Minnesota to Lansing, Michigan to be closer to her family in Detroit.

Delores loved traveling and gardening. She traveled as required by her career, but she also enjoyed traveling for pleasure all over the world. Her world travels took her to Asia, Africa, South America, Europe, and the Caribbean. She adored her cruises with her sisters, Judy and Rose. She lovingly tended to her home garden and blessed the neighborhood with her beautiful flowers.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Dora Lee and Arthur Jackson, Sr.; brother, Arthur "Poose" Jackson, Jr.; sisters, Corrine "Judy" Morgan, Rose Elizabeth Evans, and Theresa Ann LaCour; nephew, Vincent Morgan; sister-in-law, Karen Jackson; seven aunts, one uncle, and many cousins.

Our beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Delores Jean Washington, went home to be with her Lord Sunday, October 16, 2022. We are comforted in the belief that she was welcomed to her heavenly home by her parents, brother, sisters, nephew, grandparents, aunts, uncle, cousins, and ancestors.

She leaves to forever cherish her memory: her adored brother, Martin Jackson of Detroit; her sister, Mary Philomena Riley of Lansing; 11 nieces and nephews, Tina Morgan, Chaira London, Michelle Morgan, Natalie Young, Phillip Woodworth, Martin J. L. Jackson (Charlette), Martez Conner, Karrina Jackson, Jackson Riley, Jonathan Riley and DeSheena Logan; 16 great nieces and nephews; 6 great-great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins of the I.
