Curtis Chester, Sr. was born October 7, 1947, to Clarence and Albertha Johnson Chester in Bostwick, Georgia. He joined Sweet Home Baptist Church at an early age. After moving to Lansing, Michigan he moved his membership to Shiloah Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. Climmie Hughes. At Shiloah, Curtis was a member of the male choir and drove the church van.

Curtis was joined in Holy Matrimony to Tommie Jane Walker on February 20, 1976, and they remained together nearly 45 years until her death. Family was important to Curtis. He took great pride in being a provider and raising his children on truth and principals. As an embodiment of these qualities, Curtis's life demonstrated what it meant to walk with God. As loving husband and honored father; he stood on integrity. His giving heart and words of wisdom provided both comfort and encouragement to many. To those who knew and loved him, his spirit will never be forgotten.

Preceding Curtis in death was: his wife, Tommie Jane Chester; son's, Milton Chester and Myrun Chester; father, Clarence Chester; mother, Albertha Johnson Chester; sisters, Allene Hill, Callie Pearl Williams and Classie Mae Rainwater.

Curtis went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 24, 2021.  He leaves to cherish his memories: son's, Curtis Chester, Jr. of Lansing, Michigan, Devon Chester of Richmond, Virginia; sisters, Ola Yearby of Lansing, Michigan, Sadie Chester of Athens, Georgia, Barbara Chester of Lansing, Michigan; brother, Clarence Chester, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
