Obituary

Cullen Lanier Dubose II finished the last chapter of his life on February 13, 2021 after a long fight. He was born May 25, 1964 to the parentage of Cullen and Helena Dubose in Lansing, Michigan.

Cullen Lanier was educated in the Lansing public schools and began his Christian journey while worshiping at Trinity AME Church. He attended Everett High School in Lansing, where he was a honor student, basketball player, and the drum major. Following graduation in 1982, Cullen Lanier attended Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. While matriculating at Xavier, Cullen Lanier joined Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. After graduation from Xavier University, he married his college sweetheart, Arnel Washington. They were married for four years. Cullen Lanier and Arnel resided in Lansing Michigan.

Cullen Lanier began his professional career at Quaker Oats as a Sales Representative. After a few years in sales, Cullen Lanier chose to follow his passion and work in the music industry. He began his work in radio at WYLD Radio Station in New Orleans, Louisiana. He later joined Power 96 and WXLA Radio Stations as the Program Director in Lansing, Michigan. Cullen Lanier played the saxophone in his youth and music was one of his great loves.

In his desire to help others, he served on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing, Michigan. Cullen Lanier displayed a passion for relationship building and mentoring youth. He had friends of all ages, colors and genders. He had a true zest for life.

Cullen Lanier is survived by his parents, Cullen and Helena Dubose of Lansing, Michigan; sister, Cheri Dubose Reid and brother-in-law, Al Reid of Northbrook, Illinois; brother, Freddie Dubose and sister-in-law, Briana Dubose of Beverly Hills, Michigan; two nieces, Ariel Reid and Erika Dubose, and two nephews, Christopher Reid and Aaron Lanier Dubose; and a host of cousins; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Trinity AME Church. The family is being served by Riley Funeral Home.
