Climmie Mack

April 20, 1926 – January 17, 2018
Climmie Mack Hughes was the oldest son born to Susie and Joe Hughes. He was born on April 20, 1926 in Leland, Mississippi, where he came to know the Lord at an early age. Climmie was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served for a year abroad during WWII. He met and married Leatha Hughes in Chicago, Illinois in 1951. While in Chicago, he served as a deacon at Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
In 1968, Climmie and his family moved to Lansing, Michigan. Here he attended Union Missionary Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and was ordained as a minister for the Gospel at Union. He attended the Great Lakes Bible College for a year and a half and on January 20, 1974, Shiloah Missionary Baptist Church was organized with him as pastor. He served as the founding pastor at Shiloah for 40 years.
Climmie retired from the Lansing School District in 1991, after 16 years of service as a custodian. Other activities within his church and community included: Convention Chaplain for Alcoholics Anonymous, leading the Twin Oaks bible study group, regularly ministering at the Ingham County Jail, and past president of the Ministerial Alliance.
Reverend Hughes went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leatha Hughes; father, Joe Hughes; mother, Susie (Nash) Hughes; sisters, Idell Johnson, Commearl Wofford, Ruby Randolph, and Emma Hughes; and brother Mackie Hughes.
He leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Toni (Michael) Hughes Glasscoe; granddaughter, Sydney Glasscoe; great-grandson, Caleb Glasscoe; sister, Nadine Hughes; brother, Joe (Evalet) Hughes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Climmie was a man of God, who loved his family and doing the work of the ministry. He touched many lives by spreading the Gospel of Christ. He will always be remembered, loved, and appreciated.
Mr. Hughes will lie in repose on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 2-6 P.M. at Riley Funeral Home, 426 West Saint Joseph Street, Lansing, Michigan. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 500 South Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Lansing, Michigan. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made and/or mailed to: Shiloah Missionary Baptist Church, 5225 South Waverly Road, Lansing, Michigan 48911.
