Obituary

Cicero Marcus Barber, Jr. died peacefully on Friday, January 28, 2022 at the age of 89. He was the first of four sons born to Tommie and Cicero Barber, Sr. Cicero attended and graduated from Sumner High School in St. Louis, Missouri.

After being drafted in the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged.

He moved to Lansing, Michigan in the early 1950's. He was employed by General Motors Fisher Body Division for over forty years and retired in 1995 as an electrician in skilled trades.

He loved playing chess, dominoes, and all card games. He was an avid bowler, golfer and enjoyed baseball. He especially enjoyed reading the dictionary and solving crossword puzzles. He listened to all kinds of music and loved creating his own music playlists.

Cicero is survived by: his wife of 68 years, Emma Barber; son, Derrick Barber, Sr.; daughters, Stephanie (Steven Sylvertooth) Barber, Sonetta Barber, SaLiza (Gary) Washington, Simona (Stanley) Hayward, Sangria (Ivey) Morrell, and Sibyl Barber; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; brother, Michael (Juanita) Barber, Sr.; in-laws, Herschel Roper, Gary (Charlotte) Roper, Sally Murchison, Janet Buis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Barber was preceded in death by: parents, Tommie Marie Watson and Cicero Marcus Barber, Sr.; daughter, Serika Barber; brothers and wives, Leland and Glenda Barber, Rudolph and Eva Barber; in-laws, Theodore and Thomelia Roper.

He will be sorely missed, often thought of, and forever loved.
