Obituary

Cheniya Darlyne Rogers, 20, was born as a gift from God to Cherie Dumas (Lansing, MI) and Antonio Tyrone Gordon (Portageville, MO) on November 6, 2004.

Cheniya graduated from Success Virtual Learning Center in 2022, and also attended Lansing Sexton High School. She learned easily and was a high achiever. She loved to dance and sing with her sister Che'Kyrah, going to the park and enjoying nature with her son Kordae, and cooking, her favorite being pepper steak and rice, and sitting around the table with family seafood boils.

Cheniya loved her work as a Customer Service Representative at Celebration Cinema, The Hyacinth House, and REO Town Clubhouse. At the time of her passing, she was employed at Family Dollar and loved her job. Her co-workers & customers loved her. Cheniya was baptized at Mt. Hope Church Downtown Campus, Lansing, MI.

Cheniya was predeceased by: her maternal great grandparents, Catherine (Broadnax) Sturdivant and Cleophus Sturdivant; grandfathers, Lowell Wade, Sr. and Albert "Joe" Crenshaw; great aunts, Veronica Wade, Arlene Crenshaw and Hattie Drake; her godbrother, Ramses Young-Collins; along with many other family members and friends.

Cheniya is survived by: her cherished son, Kordae; mother, Cherie Dumas; father, Antonio Tyrone Gordon (Portageville, MO); stepfather, Nate Dumas; her siblings, Chequir Rogers-Jamison, Che'Kyrah Dumas and Mar'Kysha, Mar'Quez, and Mar'Quan Gordon; grandmothers Linda Darlyne Rogers and Maude (Michael) Conrad (Portageville, MO); uncle, Marque Rogers; nephew, Cleophus; niece, Izabella; great aunt, Vicki (Leonard) Stokes; great uncles, Brian (Tamra) and Daryl (Janele); godfather, DeShawn Sturdivant; special cousin, Josephine Sturdivant; special aunt and uncle, Linda Thomas-Boyd and Gregory Wingo; and a host of Broadnax, Dumas, and Sturdivant uncles, aunts, cousins and loving family and friends.

Our hearts are broken as we share the passing of our beloved Cheniya along with the love of her life, Nathan Pentecost, Jr.. She was the kind who went above and beyond for the people she loved, always knew how to bring calm in difficult moments, and could brighten any room just by being in it. She was strong, stubborn in the best way, and carried herself with a quiet kind of bravery. Her family and friends will always remember her contagious smile, her unwavering loyalty, her deep love for her son, Kordae, and her gift of keeping everyone grounded. Her heart was soft, but her spirit was strong, and she never
let life's hardships take away her light.

Although her time here was far too short, the impact of her love and light will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew her. This is a testament of love from Gracie, who was blessed to have shared life with Cheniya since childhood. She wasn't just my best friend, she was my sister, safe
place, and my other half. We shared secrets, dreams and memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

"Some souls just understand each other upon meeting, and ours always did." In loving memory from Cheniya's best friend/sister Gracie  Thompson and "bonus mom" Hannah Thompson.
