Charles Edward Williams, "Willie Poop," age 77, of Lansing, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on September 9, 2021.
Charles was born in Villa Ridge, IL on February 23, 1944, to Charles B. Williams and Oneta B. Williams. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1962. Charles was joined in holy matrimony to Charlotte M. Dorris of Lockport, IL on October 24, 1964, for 43 years. At the age of 28 he began his career at the Michigan Department of Corrections, Jackson Correctional Facility as a prison guard and while working, he enrolled full time at Eastern Michigan University and receive his bachelor and master's degree. Charles retired as an Assistant Warden from Michigan Department of Corrections where he worked for 25 years.
Charles loved to put smiles on people's faces and had a knack for making people laugh with his life stories and he also loved traveling the world. Charles enjoyed going to the Lansing Mall to walk in the morning and socialize with his friends and family, afterwards he would come home and spend hours reading his Bible. Charles was actively involved with the Tabernacle of David (Pastor Larry Trice, Jr.) and Lansing Church of God in Christ (Bishop Samuel Duncan, Jr.).
Charles was preceded in death by: his wife, Charlotte M. Williams; parents, Charles B. and Oneta B. Williams; sisters, Sandra Doles, Vernell Williams and Imogene Williams.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory: children, Camisha Williams of Ypsilanti, MI and Charles Williams, II of Marshall, MI; five grandchildren, Jazmin Williams, Brittany Powe, Briana Powe, Brooke Powe, and Jay Powe; two brothers, Wilbert Williams of Yucaipa, CA and Harold (Rosemary) Williams of Lansing, MI; two sisters, Vivian Thornton of Lawrenceville, GA and Mabel Thornton of Sterling Heights, MI; uncle, Ulysses Kinnel; sister-in-law, Beverly (Melvin) Kindle of St. Louis, Missouri; brother-in-laws, Chet Doles of St. Augustine, FL and Robert (Tillie) Dorris of Sherwood, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
