Centenniel Lue-Allie
Venyah
September 21, 1935 – December 11, 2024
Centennial "Lue Allie" Venyah was born on September 21, 1935, the youngest girl of the seven boys and three girls, born to Columbus Mixon and Tempie Ann Pettway, in Rehoboth, Alabama.
From early childhood Lue was gifted. Musically singing in Gospel quartets with her sisters in the southern states, and being called a child prodigy on the piano at 4 (though, she said, she was "too shy" to play in front of people). As an adult, she sang with the Earl Nelson Singers.
Lue also exhibited academic proficiency: testing out of two grades, graduating high school at 16 years of age, and earning bachelor's and master's degrees at Michigan State University.
While studying at MSU, Lue met Lawrence Venyah, a student from Ghana, West Africa. The two were married on April 22, 1967, and raised four sons: Norman, Titus, Michael, and Marcus.
After graduating from MSU, Lue taught in the Lansing School District for 42 years.
Despite the achievements above, Lue's greatest work in life was spiritual. She first committed her life to the Lord Jesus Christ at three years of age, repented and was baptized at 12, recommitted her life to Christ and was filled with the Holy Ghost at 56, sang in the praise and worship group and served as "church mother," in Soulwinners Fellowship Church, a church started in her home.
Known for her "meek and quiet spirit," generosity and love, Lue regularly shared Jesus, gave to the poor, prayed for the sick, and listened tirelessly to any needing a listening ear. She and Lawrence invited many to live in their home and helped whomever they found to be in need.
Few however, know that Lue was also a fervent prayer warrior and fiery preacher. She drove to Michigan cities, and other states, to share the Gospel; on college campuses, at public events, and even at the satanic "666 Festival," on June 6, 2006 with members of the church. She compassionately ministered to women, sharing Christ and bringing some into the church.
Lue continued in Biblical faith and obedience to Christ, loving her husband, sons, grandchildren, relatives, friends, strangers. She enjoyed fellowshipping with her church and Christian brethren, as well as compassionately, but uncompromisingly, sharing the Gospel of Christ with non-Christians. On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 8:30 pm, at 89 years of age, Centennial Lue Allie Venyah passed from earth to eternally dwell with her Lord. She was preceded in death by: her husband of 48 years, Lawrence Komla Venyah; her youngest son, Marcus John Kwesi Venyah; her father and mother; nine elder siblings; and a host of beloved relatives. She is survived by: her sons, Norman, Titus, Michael, and their wives; her many grandchildren; her many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and relatives both in the US and in Ghana, West Africa.
Because of the woman, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, friend, that "Mom, Mother, Aunt Lue" is, in Christ her physical presence is missed. But, if we choose to follow her example of Biblically believing and obeying Jesus until the end of our earthly lives we will also go to eternally dwell with Jesus, and, in Christ's presence we will also be reunited with Lue again, singing Jesus's praise forever. Praise the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)!
