Catherine Merta Vaughn of Lansing, Michigan died, October 19, 2023. Cathy was 73 years old. The daughter of Victor and Beverly Merta, was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 15, 1950, and grew up in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.

Cathy attended Grosse Pointe Schools and graduated from Grosse Pointe South High School in 1968. She went on to study at Northwood Institute, being bestowed with "Woman of the year" honors in 1970. Cathy continued her college education by attending Michigan State University, receiving a B.A. In History in 1972. Cathy worked for Michigan State University for over 40 years in a variety of office administrative roles. She worked for the Office of the President, Honors College, Department of Chemistry, the Kresge Art Museum, and the Office of the Dean, College of Arts and Letters.

Cathy met the love of her life, Scott Vaughn while employed at MSU. Cathy was married to Scott in 1995 until his death in 2006. Cathy is survived by: her brother, Leo Merta; sister and brother-in-law, Valerie and Jon Moot; a niece, nephew and grandchild.

Cathy had a lifelong passion for reading, the arts, opera, and history. She was especially fond of animals which filled a major part of love and joy in her life. The family wishes to acknowledge the deep friendship and support that Cathy had with Paula and Michael Koppisch and Bets and Bob Caldwell.
