Obituary

Bryan Lynn Sturdivant is the second oldest child of Calvin and Irene Sturdivant. Bryan was born in Lansing, Michigan on July 5, 1956. Bryan accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Reverend Ferdinand Fritz. Bryan took part in various church activities at new Mount Calvary Baptist Church.  He attended, Main Street School, Hannah Middle School, and East Lansing High School where he graduated in 1974. Bryan studied Broadcasting at LCC. He went on to work in the transportation industry for the balance of his working career.

Bryan was an avid sports fanatic and especially enjoyed the MSU Spartans, Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Tigers, and most beloved, the Los Angeles Lakers, with profound admiration for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He himself enjoyed playing baseball and basketball.  Additionally, Bryan enjoyed the ministries at his church Friendship House of Prayer. He was involved with the Heralds of Faith Choir, the Male Chorus, and the Men's Worship in Dance ministry. Bryan loves music of all genres, and made an annual trip to enjoy a music festival with his friends. Of his many attributes, Bryan had a very nice singing voice, and was a very good public speaker often making remarks at family events.

A son, close to his Mother, Bryan was the point person for the family Christmas morning breakfast for 3 decades. On Mother's day he spearheaded the annual dinner by buying and helping to prepare the food. This year, he was the delivery person to bring the three different vases of flowers to our Mother's house, delighting her beyond words!

His father, Calvin E. Sturdivant, preceded Bryan in death. Left to cherish his memory is his Mother, Irene Sturdivant of East Lansing, his brother Derrick Q. Sturdivant of Lansing, Karen D. Sturdivant also of Lansing; Dr. Anita K. Sturdivant Allen (Wesley) of Novi; sister in love Lynn A. Sturdivant, niece and nephew in law Dr. Erica Sturdivant-Brown (Cole) of Philadelphia; 1 great niece Iyla Josephine, and another great niece on the way both of Philadelphia; one nephew; Braxton R. Allen of Novi, another niece, Averi K, Allen also of Novi, and one Goddaughter, Ana Godines of Lansing. Aunts Irene (Herfner Cutliff) Oklahoma City; Barbara James, Austin Texas; Bernice Williams of Flint, MI; Marie Campbell of Lansing; and Vernetta (John) Edmond, both of Lansing, MI. Bryan had special relationships with Mrs. Marian Scott, Cousin Ethel Mary Stokes, and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
