Billy Wilbert Robinson, brother, uncle, nephew, friend, and son of the late Solomon and Bessie Robinson, began his earthly life October 4, 1949. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was an active member of the Friendship Baptist Church Young Adult Choir and attended Sunday School on a regular basis. Billy attended Main Street Elementary, West Junior High and was a graduate of J.W. Sexton High School, class of 1968. Immediately after completion of his academic education, he became employed by General Motors, formerly Fisher Body. Later, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served active duty in the Vietnam War. Billy also worked several years for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Billy was an outstanding student. He achieved and maintained an A Honor Roll status, without having to actually study. His intellect carried on throughout his adulthood, and enabled him to answer every question on the Jeopardy television game show. He read The Lansing State Journal from front to back and watched the news early each morning. He loved sharing current events with others and probably knew more about politics than most of the politicians. Billy was a family man and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his late mother. He took care of many of her errands, including housekeeping, laundry and lawn care, which he took great pride in. Many others noticed his exceptional work, which eventually led to him acquiring several contracts of lawn care and odd jobs throughout the community. Billy was also a lover of sports, especially basketball, football and wrestling. As a youth, he self-nicknamed himself The Sheik, in honor of one of his favorite wrestlers from the 1960s. Billy loved people and would make his rounds daily to the neighborhood stores and barbershops. He could be heard before he was seen, with a bark bigger than his bite. He was a stranger to none, a friend to many, and had a heart of gold, that led him to assist everyone he encountered. Billy was preceded in death by: his parents, Solomon and Bessie Robinson and sister, Joyce. Billy passed away on October 26, 2012. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished by: his brother; Terry Johnson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; sisters, Janet Robinson of Carson, California and Patricia Robinson of Laurel, Maryland; nephew; Lamar Robinson of Lansing, Michigan; nieces, Chaprie Robinson and Jessica Foreman, both of Beltsville, Maryland, Femi Johnson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Cherise Robinson of Lansing, Michigan; great-nephews, Jaris and Jaire Foreman, both of Beltsville; great-nieces, Larissa Robinson and Saniyah Williams.
