Obituary

Beverly (Grams) passed away peacefully on August 5, 2022 surrounded by family. She was born on March 9, 1935 in Mason, Michigan to her parents the late Harry and Melba Smiley. She married young and moved to Holt, Michigan where she was welcomed with loving arms to their farm by Earl and Lovina Long. It was here that her legacy began. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and friend. She was a hard worker and loved her job as a housekeeper at Ramada Inn, where she worked for 25+ years. She received many awards for her spectacular service.

Grams was an angel who lived on Earth before she went to Heaven. She lived her life disciplined in her own faith in God. She believed in the bible and treated everyone with love and kindness the way that Jesus did. Grams loved unconditionally, was always helping people, made a friend every where she went and never passed judgement on anyone's short comings.

Grams enjoyed the outdoors and nature. She loved tending to her garden and watching her pink roses bloom. She often spoke of the sunshine and loved to sit outside and feel it on her face. You could often find Grams doing crossword puzzles, putting together a jigsaw puzzle or inviting you to play the marble game. Grams loved to dance in the kitchen and listen to music. She loved laughter and having fun.

At the farm she always welcomed you with a hug and was ready to converse with a pot of coffee. She enjoyed her morning cup of coffee with a donut and if you were lucky you could join her in the evenings with a shot of Roscato wine. Grams also had a special cupboard that she took the grandkids to and gave them a treat. You always left with a hug and a wave goodbye from the window.

She was greeted in Heaven by: her husband, Charles A. Long; infant son, Charles Long; her parents and in-laws; sister, Anita Hallock; brother, Dick Smiley; son-in-law, Bob Hayes; grandson, Wesley Long; infant granddaughter, Candida Long; and great granddaughter, Lacyee Grace Johnson.

She will be greatly missed by: her daughter's, Deborah (Steve) Wilson, Brenda (Bob) Hayes, LuAnn Canfield; son's, Earl (Melanie) Long, Tim (Lori) Long, Rick (Phoebe) Long. Also feeling her loss is her 19 grandchildren and spouses; 38 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Janet Smiley; and many nieces and nephews, extensions of family and friends who became her family.

Grams would want us to remember her by her poetry, writing and words of wisdom. She leaves us all with this last bit of advice.

"It isn't how long you live, it's how you live." Love and Hugs, Grams
