Baron Deblance Higgs was born September 13, 1952 in Greenfield, Tennessee to the late Willie Marie Mitchell and Jewell Higgs. He was raised by his stepfather, Etoy Mitchell. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1970. In January 1972, Baron joined the United States Army in Fort Polk, Louisiana where he earned a National Defense Medal and was proficient in the use of a Marksman Rifle M-16. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in June 1977. Before his honorable discharge, he moved to Lansing, Michigan and married the love of his life, Sylvia Irvine in November 1975. Baron accepted Christ at an early age. He became a member of Solid Rock Full Gospel Baptist Church in the late 1990s. He became a deacon in March 2006 and just a few months later accepted Gods calling on his life to become a Minister in October 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Evangeline and Jamina, both of Tennessee; and brother, Paul (Lillian) Mitchell of Buffalo, New York. Minister Baron Deblance Higgs went home to be with his Lord Tuesday, August 13, 2013 after a short illness. He leaves to cherish memory: his lovely and devoted wife of 38 years, Sylvia Higgs; children, Baron Irvine, Jr. and Angela Punpkin Irvine; step children, Belinda and Cordell Irvine; grandchildren, Roderick Toot Frost, II, Angelica Irvine, Ahmyere Hollingsworth, Ursula Grayson, KeeAnna Jones, Nautica Wells, Lethus Skinner, Sylan and Drake Yates; great grandchildren, Marvin Scott, II and Anylianna Smith; sisters, Zadie Brown of Martin Tennessee, Sharlene (Don) Wright of Lansing, Michigan, Etoria Mitchell and Linda (Willis) Plummer, both of Buffalo, New York; brothers, Kenneth Mitchell of Sharon, Tennessee and Johnny Mitchell of Buffalo, New York; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
