Barbara Ann Trickey was born on May 29, 1946 in Manhattan, New York. She graduated from Amityville Memorial High School in 1964. Later, she moved to Okemos, Michigan and married David Trickey. She attended Michigan State University and received her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Education in 1973 and her Masters in Education in 1978. Barbara was an astounding, loving, and devoted teacher for 38 years. She taught math and science at Otto Middle School for many years. Later she became an art teacher and taught at various schools in the Lansing School District from kindergarten to middle school. Barbara loved to cook and always said, I cook gourmet. She made various dishes for her family and friends. She was an awesome cook. She put a lot of love into her dishes. Barbara was an amazing athlete. She broke her high schools record for the 50 yard dash. She also triumphed in karate, winning many medals and trophies in that sport. She was a downhill skier, on many softball teams, a softball coach for Otto Middle School, was # 3 in the state in Racquetball and a Class C Division champion. She was accomplished in many other sports, as well. Barbara was a folk musician and vocalist in the 1970's. She performed in a place known as The Village in Harlem, New York. She was also an artist, when she was younger, before she pursued her degree in education. Additionally, Barbara was an avid attendee of St. Johns Student Parish, for over 20 years and participated on many Boards of Assembly. Barbara was a very strong and pursuant woman. She was very giving of herself and her time. She taught her beloved students to the best of her ability. She often gave them candy and many food parties. She always stressed education. She was preceded in death by: her father, Barbour Williams; sister, Janice Gonzalez; grandmother, Birdie Scott; and cherished aunt, Tootsie. Barbara went to be with God, the Father on August 24, 2012. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Kim Trickey; grandsons, Malek and Malcolm Evans; mother, Margaret Williams; sister, Ella Williams; cherished cousin, Lillian Williams and her family; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including longtime friend and ex-husband, David Trickey. Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, dear friend to many, and a wonderful teacher. She was a loving, awesome woman and will be dearly missed. Friends may visit Ms. Trickey, Tuesday, August 28, 1-6 pm with family receiving friends from 4-6 pm at Riley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2:00 pm at St. John's Student Parish, 327 MAC Ave., East Lansing. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service.
