Barbara Maddlin Runyon was born July 28, 1956 in Sacramento, California to the union of Robert and Elizabeth McMurray Dorty. When she moved to Lansing, she was a member of Morning Star COGIC under the pastorship of her grandparents, Elder Bennie and Velma Poach and Elder Willie and Sister Swift. She was currently a member of Robinson Memorial Church of God In Christ under Superintendent William H. and Maxie Lee. She and her husband, Gerald, attended for many years. She served as a member of the choir and the Deaconess Board. She loved Sunday School. Barbara was a resident of Lansing since 1959. She graduated from Sexton High School and attended Davenport College. She retired from Wyeth Laboratories. She was devoted to her family. She particularly loved sewing and making jewelry. She was recognized for her bubbly personality and her fashionable dressing. Barbara was preceded in death by her grandparents. The angels of the Lord called Barbara home to be with the Lord on January 31, 2014. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Gerald Runyon; mother and step-father, Elizabeth and James McMurray; father, Robert Dorty of Cleveland, Ohio; sister, Phyllis Dorty; special nephews, Terrance Dorty of Detroit, Michigan, and Taurian Amunga of New York City, New York; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She will live on as an angel in all of our hearts. Mrs. Runyon will lie in repose Thursday, February 6, 3-6pm at Riley Funeral Home, 426 West St. Joseph Street, Lansing, MI 48911. Funeral services for Mrs. Runyon will be held Friday, February 7, 1:30pm at Robinson Memorial Church of God in Christ, 509 Charles St.,Lansing, Michigan 48912.
