Annie Laura Cooper was born in Sandersville, Georgia on January 26, 1926 to Lindsey and Mahalie Warren. She was previously a member of the Springfield Baptist Church in Sandersville, Georgia and graduated from Thomas J. Elder High School of Sandersville, Georgia in 1944.
She moved north after graduating and met and married Ellison Cooper Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. That union would produce one child, Ellison the III. Annie later moved to Buffalo, New York. She worked as a seamstress in the design department at Berger Department Store. She worked there many years before she eventually retired.
While living in Buffalo, New York, she joined the Bethel A.M.E. Church. Annie was very religious and helped in many church functions.
Her son and daughter-in-law brought her from Buffalo, New York to Lansing, Michigan to live and be taken care of in 2003. Shortly thereafter, she joined the Trinity A.M.E. Church of Lansing. Annie said that she "felt at home there."
Mrs. Annie Laura Cooper went home to be with her Lord December 22, 2015. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Ellison Cooper III and wife, Quincie R. Cooper of Lansing, Michigan; three grandchildren, Quincie Ellen Cooper of Des Moines, Iowa, Ellison Cooper IV and Augustus Cooper of Lansing, Michigan; and numerous great-grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, Juanita Warren of Pontiac, Michigan, and numerous sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws that include Mildred (Thomas) Deloach, Julius Cooper, Harry (Catherine) Cooper and Georgianna Elliot of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Furthermore, she leaves a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends that includes god-son, Alexander (Denise) LeDoux, and daughter Adria and extended family members of Mary Walker and Arthur Walker of Michigan.


Mrs. Cooper will lie and repose on Monday, December 28, 2015, 12 - 7pm at Riley Funeral Home, 426 W. St. Joseph Street, Lansing, MI 48933. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 31, 2015, 1pm at Trinity AME Church, 3500 W. Holmes Road, Lansing MI 48911.
