Annette Joyce
Smith
August 24, 1961 – December 29, 2022
Annette Joyce Smith, 61 of Lansing, MI (formerly of New York and the United Kingdom), went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 29, 2022. She was born in Birmingham, England to Lucilda and Vibert Smith on August 24, 1961. Annette emigrated to the United States as a teenager with two of her sisters. She graduated from New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn, New York.
After nearly 20 years of service as an employee of District Council 37 Health Service (DC-37) in New York City, she relocated her family to Michigan to join her sisters. She was the smiling face and ever dependable Security Officer for DK Security in the Lansing area and the State Building for many years, securing the public, personnel, and property. Most recently, Annette shared her glowing personality with her colleagues at Peckham in Lansing and TownePlace Suites in East Lansing.
Gone too soon, Annette was caring and selfless, always putting family first as she gave the ultimate gift. She loved meeting people and had a talent for making everyone feel comfortable as she lit up the room with her quick sense of humor and ever smiling face. She was also a huge Bob Marley and reggae fan who was very connected to her caribbean roots. How she loved those festivals!
Annette was preceded in death by: her parents, Vibert and Lucilda Smith; and her brother, Neville Smith.
Left to cherish her memory are: her children, Rebecca, Raven and Rian Smith; her sisters, Claudine (Lebert) Christian, Delphena Smith (Iva Curtis), Valerie (Delroy) Campbell and Jacqueline (John) Metzger; nieces, Zabrina, Samantha, Danielle, Michelle and Candace; nephews, Royston, Gary, Matthew, Neil, Theodore, Michael, Nigel, and Simon; as well as a host of cousins, friends, colleagues, neighbors and casual acquaintances she had the pleasure of knowing.
