On January 29, 1943, a candle was lit for Anna, & it burned brightly for 78 years. Anna was the first girl born to Samuel & Mary Hughes.
Anna had a beautiful voice, sang in the choir at church and was in musical plays. An actress she was, she even won the Thespian Award in high school.
Anna and her childhood best friend, Bessie Mayo, were inseparable and remained close throughout the years.
Anna had four daughters: Christiana Hughes, Mary Williams, Stephanie Williams and Patricia Lovett. She helped raise a stepchild, Bernadine Lovett. She was blessed with nine grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Five generations from one amazing woman.
Anna was known to everyone as Grandma Dukes. If you don't know how she earned that name you betta ask somebody, the story will have you laughing.
Her door was always open to friends and family. Her home was a refuge to the needy and the greedy. LOL. She was an inspiration to everyone who came in contact with her. Anna would even accept calls from people in jail and encouraged or fussed at them to get their stuff together.
She worked for the State of Michigan for 37 years. Lived by Comstock Park for 46 yrs. We can all agree the house at 920 Wisconsin will not be the same without Anna Lovett.
Anna's amazing light began to dim & expired on January 5, 2022.
Anna was proceeded in death by: her father and mother; her brothers, Porter, Eugene, Frank, Ronald and Thomas Hughes; her daughter, Christiana Hughes; her grandson, Marquis Lovett; and was joined by her granddaughter, Amber Williams.
Arrangements for Ms. Lovett are as follows:
