Obituary

Anna May (Hicks) Conklin, age 95, of Owosso, passed away Friday, February 1st at Prestige Pines Assisted Living in DeWitt. Mrs. Conklin was the last surviving original family member of the Robert and Anna Hicks family of Maple Rapids, Michigan.

Anna May was a "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII at the R.E. Olds plant in Lansing, and during her career she was a clerk at D.M. Christians in Owosso in the fabric department (as well as other fabric departments in Owosso). She was an excellent seamstress and generously shared her considerable skills and expertise with others.

She was married for 63 years to WW II veteran and Owosso Fire Department Lieutenant Ernest H. Conklin; Ernest passed away in December 2005. There will be a celebration of life memorial for Anna May Conklin on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at 2 pm at the home of her daughter. Burial will be at Soule Cemetery in Maple Rapids, Michigan.

Anna May was an avid traveler, making several trips to Europe with her husband Ernest, and to Alaska twice with beloved friends. Anna May and Ernest traveled to every state in the United States except two; given just a little more time they would have completed their USA travels. Mom was also a lifelong member of the Evening Star Chapter in Maple Rapids, Michigan. Besides sewing and other expert needlework, Anna May loved the outdoors and gardening and spent many happy days at the cottage Ernest built for the family on their land near Lake George in Northern Michigan.

She is survived by: her son, Raymond Lee (Denise [Padgett]) Conklin of Beavercreek, Oregon; daughter, Constance Marie Conklin of Lansing, Michigan; grandsons, Paul Lee (Leisa Marie [Smith]) Conklin, and Michael Alan Peterson, both of Lansing, Michigan; she will miss her 2 beautiful great grandchildren, Lucas Gene and Sara Rose Conklin; and many, many loving nieces and nephews will miss Aunt Anna May.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Anna May Conklin's name for those wishing to do so.

The Conklin family would like to thank the kind staff at Prestige Pines, Heartland Hospice, and Riley Funeral Home as well as ALL eldercare professionals for their relentless, loving, support and care.

We will forever miss mom's beautiful smile and positive outlook on life; she touched so many lives with her accepting nature and giving spirit.
