Friends may visit Ms. Civils, Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., at the Riley Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2012, 12:00 pm at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 500 S. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to services. Anita Iris Civils age 51, was born November 23, 1960 and passed away on May 4, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer. Anita graduated from Harry Hill High School and Lansing Community College. She was employed by the State of Michigan for 33 years and was an Office Supervisor with the Department of Treasury. Anita was also a former realtor with Keller Williams, former Pashami Dancer, a world traveler, and dance instructor. She was preceded in death by: her father, Douglas Civils; bothers, Glenn and Douglas Duane Civils; and sister, Resa Civils. Survivors include: her mother, Alma Civil; sisters, Portia and Marcia Civils; brother, Ivan Civils; sister/cousin, Margo Smith-Scott; aunts, Lottie (Edgar) Moore, Marjorie Smith, Alberta Johnson, and Johnnie Mae Johnson; uncle, James Harris; nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends. The family would like to thank all those who cared for Anita during her illness, especially Regina Riddle,. Dr. Chamarthy, and the staff at the Sparrow Cancer Center and Stoneleigh Residence Hospice, who provided her with exceptional care.
