Alfonso McFadden was called from earth on Sunday, February 19, 2012, at 10:30pm, from Hospice Mid-Michigan Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI, to take his ride on the highway to Heaven. He gave his life to God in 2009 and was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church by Rev. James Douglas.Alfonso McFadden was born on February 21, 1931, in Lansing, Michigan, to Paul and Esther McFadden, Sr. He was the second of seven children: six boys and one girl. Al graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in January 1949 and went to work at Fisher Body, then City Trash Removal, and later at Federal Forge where he retired after 37 years. He was inducted in the army in 1951. He was stationed in Fort Leonardwood, MO, and was honorably discharged in March 1953. Al was interested in helping young boys and coached the city league Black Hawks, along with his brothers: Fred (Chico) and Lyle and other friends His favorite hobbies were fishing and baking sweet potato pies (and promised everyone he contacted, fish and sweet potato pie smile ). Al also enjoyed bowling and was on a team with four of his friends. The league was sponsored by his brother Chico . Al won several trophies. He was also an avid body builder and was very proud of his body and could be seen flexing his muscles as he said Hello . With his brothers, Lyle, Chico and friends Sherman Bennett (deceased), and James (Bam) Davis, played semi-pro football with the Lansing All Stars football team. Al married Cleo Arnold in October 1953, and to that union was born two daughters, Patti Ann and Chere Kay. Al was preceded in death by: his parents, brothers; Billie Eugene, Paul Jr., Fred (Chico), Lyle and a very special loving lady, Kay Dungey. Al leaves to mourn his passing his two daughters, Patti Ann Rosaria and Chere Kay McFadden; brother, Roland (Elizabeth) McFadden; sister-in-law, Lillian McFadden, a loving, caring, devoted sister, Marian Scott, whom he chose to live with in 2009; and a very special Tuesday and Friday Prayer Group where he would lead his favorite songs: Its a Highway to Heaven and What a Friend we Have in Jesus ; grandchildren Andrea (Nikki), DeAndrea, Natika (Tika), and Dijon, Sr.; great grandchildren, DeAndrea, Jr., Markey, Dominique (Domi), Jabrea, Jalen, Zane, Dijon, Jr., Nazaya, and a host of nieces, nephews and a special caring nephew Michael McFadden. Adopted, devoted nieces of the Prayer Group: Marguerite Fletcher, Dawn Ray, Francis Wilson, Cynthia Armstead, Cynthia Woods, Josephine and Lorraine Woods, and adopted nephew Bryan Armstead.
