George Pruitt, Jr.

U.S. Veteran

Friends may visit Mr. Pruitt Thursday, May 31, from 1– 9 pm, at Riley Funeral Home, with a special family hour from 6 – 8 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1, 11 am at Prince of Peace Baptist Church, 3125 W. Miller Road. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the funeral service.

George Pruitt, Jr., age 87, was born May 12, 1925 in Linden, TX to Doss P. and Pinkie Epperson Pruitt. George had many occupations prior to being drafted into the United State Army in 1943. After three years of serving his country, he received an honorable discharge in 1946. Later, he and his wife Rita moved to Lansing, MI, where he purchased several real estate properties and became Landlord to several tenants. He began employment with General Motors, Fisher Body Division. After more than 30 years of service he retired from General Motors. George loved the Lord and was always ready to do what he could for the advancement of the church. He was one of the last living founders of Prince of Peace Baptist Church and has been an active member since 1962. He served as a Trustee and as Deacon. George always set a good example for his children by attending church regularly on Sundays, helping to take care of church business and attending bible study and prayer meetings. He also started the Jr. Deacon Board so he could include the young people in the ministry. The youth of the church looked up to George and would call him every night for prayer. He also helped with Sunday devotional services. George was preceded in death by: his wife, Rita B. Warren-Pruitt; granddaughter, Vanessa Pruitt; parents; brothers, Robert Morris and Doss Edward Pruitt; sisters, Patricia Ann Pruitt and Evelyn L. Pruitt Hopkins. Thursday evening, May 24, 2012, Deacon George Pruitt, Jr., quietly departed this life to live eternally with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He leaves to cherish his memory and fulfill his dreams: his children, Charles Edward (Bunnie) Pruitt, Sandra K. (Jack) Beard, Edred Pruitt, Teresa Pruitt-Dukes, all of Lansing, and Dewayne (Stephanie) Pruitt, of Grand Ledge, MI; sisters, Annette Haskins and Pinkie Claudine Walker of Lansing; four grandchildren, Ashlee (Tony) Willis, Edrick Sylvester Pruitt, Brittanie Pruitt, and Malcolm Pruitt; four great-grandchildren, Ja’nya Manuel, Jajwavion Edwards, Jamarion Manuel, and Ashton Willis, all of Lansing; honorary son and daughter, Reverend Eddie and Mayla Lloyd, of Lansing; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
